CBSE Cluster 2026-27 is one of the most searched topics by schools, Physical Education Teachers, students, and parents at this time of year β and rightly so. The cluster-level competitions are already underway, national-level games are on the horizon, and every school wants to get its participation right.
But here is the honest reality β a lot of the information circulating on WhatsApp groups and older websites is incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong. This guide is built directly from the official CBSE Games circular and the Sports Calendar dated September 11, 2026. Read it once, and you will know exactly what to do.
1. What Is a CBSE Cluster Tournament?
CBSE organises sports competitions for students of its affiliated schools at Cluster, Zonal, and National levels. A CBSE Cluster Tournament is a regional competition in which eligible students or teams from schools mapped to that cluster participate according to the applicable CBSE sports rules.
One thing many schools get wrong β not every sport follows the same Cluster β Zone β National pathway. CBSE’s 2026-27 circular clearly specifies the level at which each discipline is conducted. Some sports skip the cluster level entirely.
2. Cluster, Zone & National Structure 2026-27
For 2026-27, CBSE has defined 20 clusters for Indian schools, numbered Cluster I to Cluster XX. Here is how the zones map to those clusters:
| Zone | Clusters | Key Regions |
|---|---|---|
| Far East Zone | I β II | Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Raipur regions |
| East Zone | III β V | Bihar, Jharkhand, specified UP areas |
| South Zone β I | VI β VII | Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana |
| South Zone β II | VIII β XI | Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa |
| West Zone | XII β XIV | Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan |
| North Zone β II | XV β XVIII | Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, HP, J&K, Ladakh |
| North Zone β I | XIX | Uttarakhand, specified UP areas |
| Central Zone | XX | Delhi |
3. Dates & Sports Calendar 2026-27
| Activity | 2026-27 Window | Status |
|---|---|---|
| School proposals to organise games | April 2026 | β Done |
| Student registration / Apply to Participate | May 2026 | β Done |
| Cluster Level Games | June 1 β July 30, 2026 | π΄ Ongoing / Completed (sport-wise) |
| Zonal Level Games | July β August 2026 | π΄ Ongoing |
| National Level Games | September 20 β October 20, 2026 | π’ Upcoming |
4. Venues β How to Find Yours
This is where most parents and students go wrong β they assume there is one fixed venue for the entire cluster. There isn’t. Different sports are allotted to different organising schools, towns, and cities within the same cluster.
Open the CBSE Sports Portal
Go to academic.cbseit.in/sports β the official CBSE Sports System. This is the only authoritative source for venue information.
Find the Latest Sports Calendar
Look for the most recent Sports Calendar PDF under “Recent Announcements.” As of September 11, 2026, the current version is v4.
Find Your Cluster and Sport
Locate your cluster number and the specific sport. The calendar lists the organising school name, location, and event dates separately for each.
Confirm Directly With the Organising School
Before booking travel β call or email the organising school. Confirm reporting date, time, venue address, and any accommodation details. Do this even if you have a printed fixture.
5. 26 Sports β Full List by Level
For 2026-27, CBSE has listed 26 disciplines. They are not all conducted at the same level. Here is the breakdown:
π’ Cluster + Zonal + National Level
π΅ Zonal + National Level Only
π£ National Level Only
6. CBSE Cluster Football 2026-27
Football is one of the most searched CBSE sports topics β and there is an important distinction that many people miss. In the 2026-27 structure:
Football (Girls) β Zonal level + National level only.
Girls’ football does NOT have a Cluster-level event. Schools searching for “CBSE Cluster Football Girls” will not find it β because the girls’ pathway starts at Zone level.
7. CBSE South Zone
The official 2026-27 structure divides the South Zone into two sections β which is important for schools in South India trying to identify their zone-level competition:
| Zone | Clusters | States / Regions |
|---|---|---|
| South Zone β I | VI, VII | Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, A&N Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana |
| South Zone β II | VIII, IX, X, XI | Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Maharashtra (Pune region), Mumbai region, Goa |
8. Cluster XIV β Rajasthan Complete Guide
CBSE Region: Ajmer Region | Zone: West Zone
This is an important correction from older information circulating online. For 2026-27, Rajasthan is officially Cluster XIV under the CBSE Ajmer Region in the West Zone. This applies to all CBSE schools in Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Alwar, Bikaner, Udaipur, and all other parts of Rajasthan.

9. Registration β The 3-Step Process Schools Must Complete
All registrations are online only through the CBSE Sports System. Missing any of the three steps disqualifies the student β even if the rest is done correctly.
Register the Student β Create UID
The school registers the student on the CBSE Sports System to generate a unique UID. This UID stays with the student for their entire time in CBSE schools β it is created once.
Apply to Participate β Select the Game
This step is separate and mandatory. After creating the UID, the school must click “Apply to Participate” and enrol the student in the specific game. CBSE explicitly states that a student without this step will not be allowed to participate β even with a UID.
Send Email Confirmation to Organising School
After completing Steps 1 and 2, the participating school must send a confirmation email to the organising school at least one week before the event. This helps the host plan logistics, fixtures, and accommodation accurately.
π School Registration Checklist
- Student registered on CBSE Sports System?
- UID generated and recorded?
- Game selected through “Apply to Participate”?
- School cluster mapping verified?
- Confirmation email sent to organising school?

10. Age Groups 2026-27

| Under 11 | Born on or after January 1, 2016 |

12. Travel Checklist for Parents & Students
A tournament is not just about reaching the ground on the reporting day. Every year, students miss events because of preventable logistical problems β wrong venue, wrong date, missing documents. Here is what to verify before leaving.
β Before Travelling β Verify All of These

- Correct reporting date and time
- Fixture or event schedule for your sport
- Team manager / coach contact number

All participants receive Participation Certificates. Winners receive Merit Certificates and Medals. Certificates are generated online through the CBSE Sports Portal after the organising school completes the attendance and result-upload process. Schools download certificates from the portal β they are available in PDF format.
Results Reporting
Organising schools must upload results on the CBSE Sports Portal β up to 4th place in team events and 6th place in individual events.

14. Frequently Asked Questions
π Final Word
For a student, a CBSE sports tournament is much more than another school event. It is competition, teamwork, travel, and learning how to handle both winning and losing β all in one week. But the right preparation starts before the first whistle. Check the latest calendar. Verify the venue. Complete both registration steps. And travel with confidence. As educators, we talk often about academic achievement. Sports remind us that education is also about discipline, resilience, and showing up.
