The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched “CBSE Budding Authors Programme 2025” an exciting opportunity for young writers through the Budding Authors Programme 2025-26. This initiative aims to nurture creative writing skills and give students a platform to see their stories published.

What is the Budding Authors Programme?

This is a FREE programme designed to inspire students from Classes 5-10 to discover the joy of storytelling and creative expression. Students can write original short stories in either Hindi or English and potentially get their work published by CBSE.

Key Details at a Glance

Categories and Word Limits:

  • Classes 5-6: 500-600 words
  • Classes 7-8: 600-900 words
  • Classes 9-10: 1000-1500 words

Important Dates:

  • First Round (School Level): January 6-31, 2026
  • Second Round (Registration & Submission): February 3-27, 2026

How Does It Work?

Round 1: School Level Competition

  • Unlimited students can participate at the school level
  • Each student writes one original story in either Hindi or English
  • Schools will evaluate stories using CBSE rubrics
  • Schools shortlist 12 best stories (2 per class – one in Hindi, one in English)

Round 2: National Level

  • Selected students register on the CBSE portal
  • Stories are uploaded for evaluation by expert panels
  • Best entries will be e-published by CBSE

For Classes 5-6:

Adventure stories, tales about love for nature/pets, heroes around us, and science fiction

For Classes 7-8:

Fantasy adventures (“When I…” scenarios), weird and whacky situations, stories on kindness and self-confidence

For Classes 9-10:

War and peace narratives, fantasy worlds, and futuristic stories
