CBSE Launches “Garima ke Saath Vriddhavastha” Campaign – A Step Towards Respecting the Elderly

Let’s Talk About Respect — Because Every Elder Deserves It

CBSE has introduced a new nationwide campaign called “Garima ke Saath Vriddhavastha” under the Ageing with Dignity initiative by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The program aims to promote respect, empathy, and intergenerational bonding among students by encouraging them to take a Respect Pledge for the elderly. All CBSE schools across India are invited to participate and spread awareness about the dignity and rights of senior citizens.

Hey friends,
When was the last time you sat with your grandparents and just listened? Their stories, their laughter, their wisdom — it’s priceless, right?

But sadly, as families become more nuclear and busy, many elders feel lonely or neglected. To bring back that love, respect, and connection between generations, CBSE has launched a beautiful initiative — “Garima ke Saath Vriddhavastha”, which means “Dignity of Old Age.”

What’s the Campaign About?

This initiative is part of the “Ageing with Dignity” movement started by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE).

It aims to spread awareness across India about:

  • The rights and respect of senior citizens
  • The importance of intergenerational bonding
  • The value of empathy and family care

To strengthen this movement, CBSE, along with the Department of Higher Education, has partnered with schools — including PM SHRI Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, and others — to launch a Nationwide Awareness Campaign.

Why This Initiative Matters

Let’s be honest — today’s youth is growing in a digital world where real conversations are rare. But emotional intelligence and empathy start at home.

By encouraging students to take a pledge of respect for elders, this campaign hopes to:
✅ Create a culture of mutual respect between young and old generations
✅ Build stronger family values
✅ Help students understand the importance of elders in society

As the circular says

“It is necessary that we promote a culture of mutual respect and understanding between generations.”

How Schools Can Participate

All CBSE-affiliated schools are requested to launch awareness drives to encourage students to take the Respect Pledge.

The circular also includes a QR code (provided in the annexure) that schools can display on notice boards.
Students and teachers can simply scan the QR code, take the pledge online, and download their e-certificate on email.

It’s easy, meaningful, and heartwarming ❤️

What is the “Ageing with Dignity” Initiative?

The MoSJE’s “Ageing with Dignity” campaign is a national movement to ensure that senior citizens across India live with respect, care, and inclusion.

By involving schools and young students, the goal is to build empathy early — because when children understand compassion today, they become better humans tomorrow.

CBSE’s Appeal to Schools

All school heads have been urged to:

  • Spread awareness about this initiative
  • Organize student-led campaigns, plays, or discussions
  • Encourage students to interact with elders in their homes and communities
  • Display the Respect Pledge QR Code prominently on school premises

Together, we can make this movement reach every classroom, every family, and every heart.
